May 23, 2005 ñ Pearson Performance Solutions (PPS), a leading provider of strategic workforce solutions, today announced that Dr. Joseph A. Orban, Senior Director, Assessment & Learning Sciences for the company, has been elected Vice Chair of the Association of Test Publishersí (ATP) Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Division.
ATP is trade organization that represents providers of tests and assessment tools and related services. It serves as an advocate for the entire testing community through the establishment of professional guidelines, and dissemination of information on advances in test development, delivery and relevant employment law. Pearson Performance Solutions was a co-founding member of ATP (under former names Reid Psychological Systems and London House) and company executives have held key leadership roles in the organization throughout its existence.
In his Vice Chair role, Dr. Orban will help lead ATPís I/O Division in advancing best practices in the development and use of high quality assessment tools. Members of this division take an active role in creating and promoting best practices that affect test use within private and public organizations.

Dr. Orban, whose primary areas of expertise are human resources and I/O Psychology, including personnel assessment and appraisal, attitude surveys, research methodology, applied psychometrics and associated computer applications, has been with Pearson Performance Solutions since 1987. He is presently the organizationís senior-most I/O psychologist, and directs the design, development, and research of psychological testing and measurement systems for business organizations from the companyís Chicago office. Dr. Orban has also taught graduate level courses in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Psychometrics, Research Methodology, and Multivariate Statistics.
Dr. Orban earned both Doctoral (Ph.D with Minors in Statistics and Management) and Masters (M.S.) degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va. He earned a B.A. in Psychology (Minors in Mathematics and Philosophy) from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD.
