Regions top business vie for places in the UKs most prestigious awards

The winners go forward to be finalists in The National Business Awards 2005, sponsored by Orange

28 of the regionís top businesses will compete for honours at the prestigious National Business Awards regional awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel at Coventry on Wednesday 6th July. The Midlands and East of England finalists, announced today, include businesses operating in telecommunications, I.T., retail, hospitality, manufacturing and healthcare.

The winners go forward to be finalists in The National Business Awards 2005, sponsored by Orange.

There are eleven categories ranging from The Business of the Year and The Customer Focus Award to The AXA Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year Award and The Orange Award for Bright Business. Four outstanding business leaders in the region will be competing for The Credit Suisse Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

ANC Express (Newcastle, Staffs.), GSH (Stoke-on-Trent), the Lumionus Group (Huntingdon), and MacLellan International Group (Redditch) are all short listed in The HSE Health & Safety Award, a new category for 2005. The judges are looking for the best example of an organisation with health and safety as an integral part of its management processes and a very good H&S record.

The National Business Awards programme allows new ventures and SMEs to vie with large and complex companies in the search for the top business performers. Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown has described The National Business Awards as ìthe UKís Business Oscarsî.

ìI am constantly impressed by the number and quality of the entries for these awards. Anyone who thinks that British businesses are lacking ideas, enthusiasm or motivation to succeed should take the place of one of our judges, what an eye-opener that would be for them.

ìYear-on-year the quantity and quality of the companies entering The National Business Awards continues to show the innovation and growth of British businesses.

ìIn this, the fourth year of Orangeís headline sponsorship, a record number of businesses have entered. All the finalists to the regional programme have shown passion, determination and originality - we wish them all luck in the final rounds of judging,î said Neil Laidler, business customer development director Orange UK

The National Business Awards is organised by the leading events and publishing company Quest Media to promote and showcase excellence throughout the British business community. The competition is open to companies and organisations of all sizes and sectors to celebrate the diversity of business in the UK.
