UK Skills will, this week on Friday 20th May, send-off the UK WorldSkills Team to the Worldís largest Skills Competition ñ WorldSkills. The final team, selected from some of the UKís most skilled young people, will represent the UK at the 2005 WorldSkills Competition, in Helsinki, Finland between 26th and 29th May. Team members are between 18 and 22 years old and will compete in a range of skills from beauty therapy, cookery and cabinet making to joinery, bricklaying and stonemasonry.
The hand picked team will be managed by UK Skills, an independent organisation funded by the Department for Education and Skills, whose primary purpose is to champion skills and learning for work through competitions, awards and events.
The WorldSkills Competition will take place in Helsinki and is the largest skills competition in the world, with nearly 700 competitors from almost 40 member countries participating. Young people from over 40 skill areas will compete over the course of four days to become the best within their chosen skill.
