Search for Yorkshire's first beer sommelier

A dream job is on offer at Samís Chop House in Leeds for a man, or indeed woman, who wants to make a career out of drinking, selecting and recommending beer.

Samís Chop House, a free house renowned for its world class range of wines and boasting the Chairman of the Guild of Sommeliers as its very own wine expert, currently has the widest range of Yorkshire beers on offer in the county and is looking for someone who can help build on an already enviable beer list and help customers identify the right beer to match their food.

Roger Ward from Samís Chop House comments: ìIt used to be that if you were ordering food and looking to impress, you needed to know the right wine accompaniment. Yet times are changing and the right beer can really bring out the flavours in your food, as long as you know what to choose. Yorkshire has some of the best and most famous beers in the UK and we need an expert who has a good nose for beer to help us help our customers.î

ìOur Leeds customers seem to like beer with their food, with one in four opting for beer rather than wine with their food. Given the time we spent creating the ideal wine list, preparing food and wine matching recommendations and training our staff; weíve been a little caught out by the trendsetters in Leeds ñ the discerning beer drinkers deserve a beer sommelier, so weíll find them the right person.î

An open audition is planned in late October, where applicants will be put through their paces ñ to test both their ability to identify quality beers and match them with the traditional food on offer at Samís. It may be hard going, working through 21 local bottled beers, 5 cask conditioned ales and 8 keg beers, so only the true aficionado need apply.

The job, which will be advertised over the coming weeks, is open to anyone who thinks that they know their Black Sheep from Old Peculiar and the best beer to go with dishes like Samís Famous Brown onion soup or its home made Corned Beef Hash.
