More Western Europeans went online in 2001

Users increasing as predicted

A new report from IDC indicates that Internet usage in Western Europe climbed to almost 40 percent last year, equivalent to 151 million people online by the end of last year.

The report also reveals consumers in Western Europe spent an estimated USD18.9 billion online in 2001.
Germany and the UK are still leading in terms of absolute numbers of users, says IDC. However, Nordic countries are still the frontrunners in terms of penetration rates.
