IoD Conference to explain role and responsibilities of the non-exec

in association with<br>exec-appointments.com

Leading the way in providing information and training for better non-executive directors, the IoD in association with exec-appointments.com is holding a conference entitled 'The Effective Non-Executive Director' on 20th March 2003. This conference follows hot on the heels of the recent
Higgs Report that highlights the need for non-executive directors to engage in more training.

The IoD applauds the recent recommendations made in the Higgs report to ensure that non-executive directors satisfy themselves that they have the knowledge, skills, experience and time to make a positive contribution to the company board.

The telephone survey revealed that two-thirds of non-executive directors had not received any training or development. The Higgs report suggests that non-executive directors need to continually update their skills and
knowledge to fulfil their role on the board.

The course will cover the pertinent issues around the appointment and development of non-executive directors and will cover: -
- The findings of the Higgs Review
- The role and responsibilities of a non-executive director
- How a non-exec can add value to the board
- Recruiting the right non-exec for your company
- Legal responsibilities and accountability of non-execs

Andrew Main Wilson, chief executive IoD Enterprises comments: The development of excellence at board level - executive and non-executive - is a core concern of the IoD. Ensuring company boards to perform to their full
potential is a key responsibility of non-execs and one that requires a great deal of knowledge and experience. The recent Higgs report addresses issues of widening the pool of potential non-execs and this conference will provide
an excellent briefing for both existing and aspiring non-execs.

Betty Thayer, chief executive exec-appointments.com adds: The Higgs Report has heightened awareness and interest in non-executive positions. Many visitors to our site would like to know more about opportunities to become a
non-exec.
