Key takeaways
- Remote hiring has created new identity and impersonation risks for employers.
- Pre-hire screening should be paired with checks throughout employment.
- Deel says human review and a clear audit trail remain essential.
Deel has announced the launch of Deel Security, an end-to-end workforce security solution designed to protect companies from workforce identity fraud. The platform verifies who companies are hiring, from the first application through employment, across more than 150 countries.
The announcement follows growing concern about identity fraud in remote hiring. In July, the FBI and ten other federal agencies warned that North Korean IT workers were using stolen and synthetic identities to obtain remote jobs; more than 300 US companies had unknowingly hired them using over 68 stolen identities.
Deel’s new Censuswide research of 1,011 HR professionals across the UK and US found that 66% had seen an increase in suspicious or fraudulent remote-job applications over the past year. Some 93% were concerned about candidates or workers using deepfakes or AI to hide their identity, while 34% said their existing checks were insufficient.
Concerns were particularly high in IT (75%), defence (72%) and cryptocurrency (71%). Gartner predicts that one in four candidate profiles worldwide could be fake by 2028, while First Advantage found that 89% of hiring managers are adding screening and identity-verification processes within the next two years.
“Fraud comes in layers, and it is changing fast.”

Alex Bouaziz, co-founder and CEO of Deel, said: “Fraud comes in layers, and it is changing fast. Businesses need to know who they are hiring and whether that person remains who they say they are throughout their time at the company. Deel Security brings these checks together in one place so employers can protect their people, data and systems without slowing down global hiring.”
Deel Security combines applicant screening, identity verification, detection of deepfakes and proxy interviewing, government-ID checks and continuing monitoring after hire. The company said the platform uses human review and provides an audit trail for employers.
The launch follows Deel’s acquisition of identity-verification platform Clarity in July 2026. Deel Security is available from 29 October 2026.
