Student initiatives praise the financial support available from the Diversity Milkround Fund

Students get up to 500 for diversity-focused events

University organisers have praised support from Diversity Milkround as the equal opportunity-driven graduate recruitment website invites new applications for grants of up to 500.

The Diversity Milkround Fund offers sponsorship for the best diversity events at UK universities with a financial contribution, guidance and support. It is pleased to be partnered with Accenture, Merrill Lynch and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP who are equally keen to provide professional support and corporate attendance.

Since its launch in January, the fund has spent 4,000 sponsoring 11 events and is now inviting new applications for events in 2008.

The response from student organisers in 2007 has been excellent. Luis Ananguren, Sheffield Universityís International Student's Officer, said The International Studentsí Committee is extremely pleased to announce International Week 07 [was] the largest program aimed to international students in the country yet! We want to give our thanks to Diversity Milkround for the support given to this great initiative. We also pledge our commitment to make the event even better next year.í

Durham Students Union arranged a breast and testicular cancer awareness campaign called Boobs and Balls. It promoted informative shower hangers to educate students on how to check themselves. Emma Carter, the Education and Welfare Officer, said: ëThere has been a lot of positive feedback from the campaign. The hangers worked extremely wellÖsome colleges are currently asking for more hangers due to the demand.í

The Fund also supported Sussex Universityís 'Know Yourself' mental health awareness week. Kathy Jones, the universityís Welfare Support Coordinator said: We got financial support for the campaign from the Diversity Milkround Fund, which meant we had extra backing and that has raised the profile of the University via their website and press.

Diversity Milkround Fund coordinator Richard Chapman added: The Fund has gone from strength to strength in 2007. We are keen to continue supporting student diversity through societies, events and initiatives. We also welcome applications no matter how small and especially those from underrepresented groups who perhaps have never had corporate backing. All campaigns we have sponsored so far prove how dedicated we are to supporting true diversity across the social spectrum.
