Online Training for Chinese Language

By Frank Mulligan, Talent Software

Yesterdayís post argued that you can measure the impact that China is having on the world by the fact that Mandarin is the second most commonly used language, after English, in internationally deployed software like Applicant Tracking Systems(ATS).

Well, there is more, and some of it is coming from China itself.

This came to mind when I saw some recent buzz about Chinesepod, who have been around for a while. I applauded the model some time ago as an excellent, and innovative, way to learn Chinese.

But the site also tends to underline the impact of China. Itís success and subsequent rapid expansion illustrates very clearly how important Mandarin has become, and by implication how necessary it is to conduct international business.

Chinesepod have had around 10 million downloads and it dominates the ranking on sites like Itunes. Type in ílearn Chineseí and they come up front and centre. Thatís a hell of an expansion rate when you consider the site is a year old and podcasting is still a shot in the dark for many people.

Podcasting itself is gradually emerging as an excellent model for the delivery of training. But more on this tomorrow.
