Top tier management rather than HR departments are responsible for the hiring of interim managers, says Robert Half Management Resources, the worldís largest specialised financial interim management and project consulting firm, Interim Britain report.
CEOs, CFOs, Financial Directors and Partners (29%) and Financial Managers, Controllers and Project Managers (47%) were primarily responsible for the recruitment of interim managers. Only 12% of placements were made directly through the HR department.
ìUK boards and top executives are responsible for hiring over three quarters of interims in the UK and this clearly demonstrates the important role interims now play in directing UK business,î says Tim Hird, Executive Director of Robert Half Management Resources. ìRoles that have a financial element have traditionally led to the board getting involved in the hiring process and this has created an understanding among the upper echelons of the type of benefits interims can offer and has paved the way for this trend to develop.î
The pressure on financial departments just in terms of compliance is enormous as people with the right experience and full-time availability are hard to find. Interim management provides a much needed resource to meet the pressure of compliance and financial regulations.
16% of hires were for positions related to compliance.
20% were employed to fulfil roles until a full-time hire was appointed.
13% were involved in specific projects from Project Leader through to Project Accountant.
10% were employed as analysts to assess different markets or operations.
Hird continued, ìInterim mangers have always been hired by vastly differing departments for a huge variety of roles and this research highlights the true spectrum within which they now operate.î
