New BCS Website Targets the IT Profession of Today

.

The BCS has dramatically re-designed and restructured its website: www.bcs.org as part of a major campaign to emphasize its relevance to a rapidly evolving and diverse UK IT profession. In particular, the site has been re-focused to appeal to both existing and aspirant IT professionals and now offers comprehensive career planning and employment advisory pages.

Since the BCS revised its membership structure in May 2004, the BCS has grown its membership base by over thirty per cent to nearly 55,000. In addition, its share of the IT professional training and qualification market has also leapt by over 30 per cent. Subsequent to this phenomenal upturn has been a stronger demand from both its membership and the wider IT profession for BCS support in promoting professional status and advising on flexible career path planning.

600 additional pages have been built into the new site providing comprehensive information on all aspects of the IT profession. A new students section, much of it written by students for students, also provides young aspiring professionals with advice, career profiles, new IT developments and reviews, project news from other colleges and universities and networking opportunities.

According to BCS chief executive David Clarke, ìBCSís website has traditionally been designed to communicate to an established and traditional membership base and also as a means of informing the media and external audiences of the Societyís developments, activities, events and views. Whilst these two existing audiences are still very important to us, our new site will also focus on promoting BCS membership services, delivering value and exciting more potential members from a wider spectrum within the UKís one million plus IT community.

ìWe will also use our new website to demonstrate more visibly how BCS is more forcefully engaging with government and industry in promoting the profile of the IT profession and raising standards of professionalism linked to membership and our relevant training and qualification product range.î
