With the boom in the construction sector showing no sign in abating, the role of recruitment agencies in effectively satisfying the high demand for workers will become increasingly important.
With so much happening in this sector and with the spotlight on high profile projects such as Wembley Stadium and the 2012 Olympics, the REC will be launching a specific Sector Group for construction agencies. These were previously represented within the RECís TEC (Technical, Engineering & Construction group) Sector Group and the launch of a dedicated group for construction will also mean that specific issues in the engineering and technical sectors will also receive dedicated support.
The Chair of the new Construction Group is Trevor Rees from the Malla Group who was previously Chair of the TEC Sector Group. Commenting on the launch, Trevor Rees said:
With the count down to the Olympics starting to gather pace and major projects ongoing all over the country it has become vital to form a dedicated group. One of the major concerns is the lack of new skilled talent coming in and this is a key issue that REC construction will want to present to the government. One of the major strengths of having a dedicated group is the lobbying power and we at the REC will seek to gain positive reforms that will benefit the industry as well as employers and jobseekers.
