National recruitment Group, HR GO Plc, was faced with a recruitment companyís worst nightmare last week; the prospect that due to an IT problem their 4,000 temps would not receive their weekly pay.
A major failure of an IT server prevented access to the software used to produce the wages for all 4,000 plus temporary workers from the Groupís 47 joint venture recruitment companies throughout the UK.
This is the first time in HR GOís 48 year history that such a crisis has occurred. However, the Groupís contingency plan was actioned and all departments at the Head Office based in Ashford, Kent, worked late into the night on Wednesday and Thursday to turn this potential disaster around resulting in virtually all workers being paid on time.
Wages for all 4,000 temps were calculated manually. Some were processed in time to make the clearing bankís Wednesday payment deadline, for the rest the Groupís bankers Natwest provided invaluable assistance by processing the payments for all the temps that bank with them and HR GO worked in co-operation with other banks and building societies to pay the remaining temps by completing paying in slips and depositing hundreds of thousands of pounds.
ìThere was an enormous sense of teamwork from all departments and a great deal of support and understanding from our group companiesî, says HR GO Chairman, Jack Parkinson.
ìEveryone pulled together and worked so hard and we achieved it! The professionalism and dedication of our team members is what made us recover from what could have been a very costly and damaging experience for our recruitment companies and their temps.î
ìOur business is all about people and didnít our people come through for us!î
Stringent steps are being taken to eliminate the possibility of problems occurring in the future.
And it must have been the week for it ñ elsewhere in the UK a cleaning group encountered similar problems following a computer glitch but unfortunately failed to pay 16,000 of their workers on the same Friday.
HR GO Plc is one of the top 50 recruitment companies in the UK covering a wide range of industry sectors. It turns over in excess of 80 million and employs 450 permanent staff nationally.
