The Top 100 online recruitment sites report 2005 is sponsored by BrassRing and published by Online recruitment magazine (onrec.com).

The 4th edition of this report provides buyers of online recruitment services with an overview of the UK online recruitment market. By collating information on over 100 UK sites, it gives readers an insight into the UK market.

The tables show who are the biggest, but it also provides details of postings and searches so a reader can evaluate if the site is applicable to their recruitment requirements. The sites are also given an opportunity to describe their individual site in their own words.

The report contains Top 10 and Top 20 tables based on extrapolated data from questionnaires sent to over 350 UK sites.

It provides some interesting data about the industry as a whole, as well as specific sites, for example:

Did you know that the Top 100 sites employ 1851 (up from 1712 people in 2004 report), with the top 20 largest sites collectively employing 1258 (up from 1145 in 2004 report)? This gives an interesting comparison against 2003 report where the Top 100 sites employed 1905 people, and the top 20 largest sites employing 1060. So the industry has, as predicted, consolidated but the larger sites have continued to grow.

In December 2004 collectively the Top 100 UK online recruitment sites had over 9 million CVs online and in the same month were advertising over 1,150,OOO jobs.

Interestingly in the last report we reported CVís at the same level but the number of jobs online has increased from 650,000 an increase of over 70%!

David Hurst, publisher of the report comments: ìItís interesting to see how the market is developing its 10 years now that online recruitment has been in existence. The UK market has more generalist sites than any country I can think of, in the US there are just 3 main generalist players. Because we have a rich mix of national newspapers and trade magazines as a well an established and large number of recruitment agencies it has taken longer for the UK online recruitment market to define itself.

The online recruitment market is split onto Generalist and niche sites. Both areas are flourishing.

Itís important to remember the niche sites, who perhaps donít figure in the Top 10 and 20 tables but are doing well. Itís also important to remember that a successful site is one that matches candidate to recruiter in an effective manner.
