Not all gloom and doom for London jobs

Recent statistics from The Gumtree

Recent statistics from London job site, www.gumtree.com, have shown an increase of over 60% in the last six months in vacancies placed in its 70 job categories. 7,200 jobs were placed in May, and this figure rose to a staggering 11,500 vacancies posted in November 2004.

Although clearly the staff reductions by Credit Suisse and the BBC are going to have an effect on the capital’s economy, says Gumtree.com founder Michael Pennington, our statistics show that the London job market was in a robust state previously which may make the redundancies less devastating.

Gumtree.com now gets equivalent internet traffic to major UK recruitment sites, according to Alexa.com, the research wing of Amazon.com, with 1.4 million unique monthly visits.
