CLUELESS companies are wasting thousands of pounds a year by advertising for vacancies that they don’t understand.
Recruitment experts say confusion is rife, especially when recruiting a marketing person, if for no other reason than the marketing industry have more job titles than any other sector ranging from ’Marketing co-coordinator and PR officer’ to ’CRM and Affinity marketing manager’.
Jonny Cainer, from specialist marketing recruitment agency Marketing Professionals UK, said the combination of puzzled personnel managers and ever changing marketing fads creates added confusion:
People responsible for recruitment must be clear about the person they need to hire before a vacancy is advertised. Defining what that person’s role will be and equally important a person spec is crucial as is choosing a suitable job title.
Job titles are more difficult to define in the creative industries and by simply getting the job title wrong it can produce a flood of poor candidates. Marketers are also very good at selling themselves which clouds the process even more for non-marketers responsible for hiring.
Marketing Professionals UK is a specialist marketing recruitment agency and helps companies define job descriptions and select the right people for marketing positions.
