Recruiter finds that regions are challenging London with job opportunities

The UK northern cities are starting to challenge London with the pace of growth in the legal jobs market, according to an industry recruiter.

The UK northern cities are starting to challenge London with the pace of growth in the legal jobs market, according to an industry recruiter.

Douglas Scott Legal Recruitment has seen a massive increase in the number of roles all over the UK but has noticed particular growth in the North.

Leading the way is Newcastle, with a 70% y/o/y increase in job placements, while Liverpool has seen a 40% increase in placed candidates.

The Yorkshire office meanwhile, currently has 29% more opportunities than the same period last year, with particular growth in corporate and commercial roles. The company has analysed figures for the August – July 12-13 and 13-14 periods and can also report that its Midlands office has 25% more roles in the same period.

“London and the South East is still a hugely strong area for us,” says Jon Nolan, director at Douglas Scott. “We’ve seen overall growth of 52% in London and the number of opportunities in the South East as whole has risen 68% y/o/y. But it is incredibly encouraging to see such growth in the regions.

“The figures show that the tide has definitely turned and with continued investment into with training, transport and infrastructure, we predict that this regional growth is set to continue.”
