LinkedIn hits 15 million members in the UK

LinkedIn, the world’s largest online professional network with over 277 million members worldwide, today announced that it has passed 15 million members in the UK, a 50 percent increase from 10 million members in September 2012

LinkedIn, the world’s largest online professional network with over 277 million members worldwide, today announced that it has passed 15 million members in the UK, a 50 percent increase from 10 million members in September 2012.

Students and recent graduates have emerged as one of the key drivers of this growth, and represent the fastest growing demographic on the site. 

David Cohen, senior director of LinkedIn Talent Solutions for Northern Europe commented, “We are thrilled to have reached this milestone. It reinforces LinkedIn’s position as the best source of talent for organisations in the UK. Talent is an organisation’s number one driver of success and, with growing signs of economic recovery in Britain, competition for great candidates is on the increase. Having an established presence on professional networks and social recruiting strategy - particularly on mobile - is increasingly a competitive advantage.”

UK employers from online fashion retailer Net-A-Porter to builders’ merchant Travis Perkins all use LinkedIn’s Talent Solutions products to identify and recruit great talent. They join more than 22,000 other companies worldwide including 76 of the FTSE 100.

LinkedIn gives companies access to ‘passive’ candidates, or those not actively looking for a new job but who make up the vast majority of professionals. This enables employers to pinpoint the perfect candidates and engage with them directly through LinkedIn. This reduces the time and cost involved in recruiting the best talent.  

To mark this milestone, LinkedIn today released new data about its UK membership:

In the UK, LinkedIn has:

  • 12,530 journalists
  • 48,679 solicitors
  • 374,711 engineers
  • 4,083 farmers
  • 7,090 hairdressers

London has more members than any other UK region. The next three are Birmingham with 284,000, Manchester with 250,000 and Reading with 213,000
