]Government launch Job Entry Targeted Support - CWJobs reactive comment

Dominic Harvey, Director at CWJobs, comments:

“It is positive to see the Government announce its Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS) initiative today, as part of a £238m employment programme that offers jobseekers who have been out of work as a result of Covid-19, coaching and advice on moving into growing sectors.

“But, whilst many people in the UK have been forced to consider a career change over the last six months, the tech sector undoubtedly holds some of the biggest opportunities as it experiences sustained growth and continues to recruit new talent. Research from our annual Confidence Index 2020 highlights the current demand, revealing that nearly half (49%) of IT leaders believe their business will increase tech budgets because of Covid-19, as three quarters (75%) agreed that IT and tech has been vital in keeping companies afloat during the outbreak.

“With this in mind, the Government’s new scheme should place a major focus on the unique opportunities within tech for individuals looking to upskill, retrain or even start a new career completely. IT and technology skills will prove to be resilient for those looking to future-proof their careers, enhancing their employability and ensuring they are adaptable for the future world of work. The tech job market has remained robust over the last couple of months and this initiative is welcomed as a move that will help feed demand to an industry that already experiences an obvious skills gap.”
