Coventry Universityís commercial recruitment agency is appealing for local businesses to get in touch with details of job vacancies they are trying to fill. Since its launch 18 months ago, thefutureworks has matched more than 500 people in temporary and permanent positions ñ but it has become a victim of its own success and currently does not have enough roles for its 3,000 candidates.
Thefutureworksí newly-appointed project manager Jenny Haycock has made it her mission to raise the profile of her organisation among West Midlandsí employers. ìWe have a huge number of high-quality candidates on our books and want local businesses to take advantage of this opportunity to access their skills ñ which is why weíre asking them to get in touch with us,î she said. ìNeither employers nor candidates need any connection with Coventry University to use our services. And while we have many students registered, we are also a resource for postgraduates and the general public looking for anything from a first job to a senior level position.î
Thefutureworks is different from high-street agencies because its consultants do not receive commission and any surplus revenue gets directed back into the University, ìThis means we make sure that we match the candidate and the job correctly rather than just fill as many positions as possible, so in nearly 100 per cent of cases, we get the right candidate for the vacancy first time,î she said.
One organisation to have benefited from thefutureworks is Coventry-based insurance litigation firm Keoghs. ìUsing thefutureworks was a change in tactic as historically we have used the local newspaper to advertise or promoted in-house,î said office manager Gill Irving, who took on a law graduate for a paralegal role. ìThe candidate already had relevant work experience and a good general knowledge of law, which was of particular benefit in that she was able to quickly grasp any task she was given. She has been such a success that we have just promoted her.î
