UK’s largest insurance firm Norwich Union is developing its offshoring plans

Company moving almost 1,000 jobs to India and Sri Lanka in the next 12 months

It was today announced that the UK’s largest insurance firm Norwich Union is developing its offshoring plans by moving almost 1,000 jobs to India and Sri Lanka in the next 12 months. 950 jobs will be offshored with 760 back-office administration roles for the life and pensions and general insurance business going to India and 190 finance support jobs going to Sri Lanka.

The offshoring phenomenon continues to gather pace but what will this mean for UK employees? And what will the longer-term impact be on the country’s economy?

Rod Flavell from global IT services company FDM is an expert in the outsourcing arena with over 20 years experience. He is available to comment of the difficulties firms face in transplanting operations to India, as well as the major impact that these job losses will have on the UK job market.
