The Source Event returns to London: Career Fair for Scientists

Naturejobs is pleased to announce The Source Event, a science career fair on the 26 September 2008 at the Business Design Centre in London. Now in its second successful year, The Source Event is the only UK career fair dedicated to all science specialties, covering graduate and postdoc roles. The conference and workshop sessions are divided into three streams: Graduate, Postdoc and Non-traditional careers. The Graduate stream is aimed at those who have a BSc, MSc or are currently studying for their PhD. Topics include choosing a mentor, building a network of contacts, and personal views on careers in academia and industry. Speakers include Dr Brian Cox, Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Manchester and CERN in Geneva, and Jim Loftus ñ Research Recruitment Manager, Pfizer.

The Postdoctoral stream is aimed at scientists currently doing a Postdoc. The Chief Editor of Nature Cell Biology will give a talk on what editors look for in a paper and offer advice on getting work published, while Matthias Haury from EMBL will talk about his experience of setting up and managing a lab.

The Non-traditional stream suggests opportunities to those scientists considering a career away from academia or traditional lab-based roles. Speakers will offer insights into working in intellectual property law, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), science writing and editing, and how to land a dream job such as working on a space mission.

The Source Event is organised by Naturejobs, the Nature Publishing Group resource offering scientific career information and job postings.
