Spencer Ogden, the leading international energy recruiter, has partnered with the Utilities Academy, the UK’s first bespoke energy engineer training centre.

The engineers trained at the centre will play a leading role in installing the government’s smart energy meter scheme. At the opening, Spencer Ogden committed to providing 2,000 trainee engineers, the largest single recruitment of trainees for the organization.

The scheme, which will see an energy saving smart meter installed in every UK home and business by 2020, is the largest domestic energy roll-out in decades and requires an estimated 14,000 engineers.

Based in Bradford, the Utilities Academy will recruit, train, supply and retain specialist dual fuel and smart metering engineers, accredited by the National Academy for Skills and Gas Safe.

Speaking at the launch, Mike Wood, MP for Batley and Spen said:

“To learn that this Academy, the Oxbridge of smart meter training, is dedicated to developing and creating a skilled workforce for this change is commendable.

“I am delighted to have this academy in my constituency; well done to all concerned.”

David Spencer-Percival, CEO of Spencer Ogden, said:

“We are excited to be partnering Utilities Academy. At a time when there is so much being said about a new ‘northern powerhouse’, we are thrilled to be supporting a scheme which will bring new jobs and career-paths to the young people of Bradford.

“The government scheme is a great initiative and will both save money for consumers and spark employment nationwide.”

Founded in 2010, Spencer Ogden is the first recruitment consultancy to service the entire end-to-end energy sector. In 2014 Spencer Ogden received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and won International Growth Business of the Year at the National Business Awards, its revenue topped $75million in 2014.
