Society aims high on recruitment after creating 300 new jobs in past three years

Leeds Building Society is celebrating the creation of 100 new jobs in 2014, taking to 300 the total of new colleagues recruited in the past three years

Leeds Building Society is celebrating the creation of 100 new jobs in 2014, taking to 300 the total of new colleagues recruited in the past three years.

The Society, the fifth largest building society in the UK, now employs 1,145 colleagues, the highest in its history, across its national network of branches and its main offices in Leeds and the North East. The mutual is a major employer in Leeds, which is the main financial centre outside London, with 631 colleagues currently working at its city centre head office.

Leeds Building Society’s recruitment drive in recent years has accompanied an ongoing programme of major investment to build a strong and sustainable business to benefit its members now and in the future and continue to improve its service proposition.

The mutual appointed 100 colleagues in 2013, a further 100 last year and aims to expand its workforce at a similar rate in 2015. As it continues to grow as a business and expand its workforce, the Society’s focus on efficiency ensures its expense ratios are among the lowest in the building society sector.

Becky Hewitt, Leeds Building Society’s General Manager – People said: “We have highly-motivated colleagues who are instrumental in delivering outstanding service to our members.

“Our People Strategy focuses on recruiting and retaining the best talent and maintaining a high performance culture and colleague engagement is high.

“The average length of service is almost seven years, with over a third of our colleagues being with the Society for more than five years. We also run an Apprenticeship Scheme providing young people with excellent training and career development and continue to improve our tools for learning and personal development among colleagues.

“We have created around 100 new roles in 2014, and we aim to do the same again this year – so we offer lots of opportunity for career development for the ambitious.”
