SKILLS ASSESSMENT TOOL LAUNCHED FOR PROJECT MANAGERS

Online adaptive skills assessment application developed for IT project teams

TeckChek has launched a new skills test for project managers. Encompassing the full life cycle of software design, development and implementation of IT projects the skills test assesses a project managers'' competencies.

As with every TeckChek test, the software has been developed by a panel of expert practitioners within project management and reviewed by a panel of independent psychometricians.

Richard Newton, managing director, TeckChek stated: We have designed this test from the bottom-up based on the core principles of project management, working closely with a number of experts in this field. We believe that we have a highly sophisticated skills assessment application that will enable HR and IT departments alike to assess the project management skills they have at their disposal.

This means HR can objectively identify the most qualified candidates when recruiting, and IT departments can pull together the most qualified team for a project, he added.

A unique feature to TeckChek is the adaptive nature of the project management test, enabling the test itself to adjust the difficulty to the skills of the test taker. Questions get harder or easier based upon the answers to the previous questions. In this way, no time is wasted giving beginners advanced questions or asking senior professionals questions that are too basic.

Each test comprises of a series of multiple choice questions, many of which use actual computer code. Each question has five possible answers, uniquely up to three of which may be correct, but the number of correct answers to a given question is not revealed to the test taker. The test taker is permitted to select up to three answers, which creates 25 possible answer combinations for each question.

In addition to a numeric score, TeckChek compares the one individual with every other in the World that has sat the same test and expresses this as a global percentile rating. Further, the results generate a comprehensive analysis of a project manager''s key strengths and weaknesses.

The project management test has been developed with the industry in mind and covers a range of highly specific topics allowing the test taking to demonstrate a range of knowledge and experience. These include:

Project plan development and execution
Integrated change control
Project scope management
Task definition, sequencing and duration
Task plan control
