Sheffield, the e-learning capital of the UK, is now home to the worldís largest and most sophisticated library of e-learning materials which is being marketed worldwide by Learning Light, the Sheffield-based non-profit centre of excellence for the use of learning technologies within the workplace.
The library consists of over 750 hoursí worth of UK-developed e-learning content with a value of 15 million. It is the worldís largest depository of post-vocational education training material and is now being marketed by Learning Light in partnership with Cambridge University Press to jointly promote the learning materials in international markets.
Other Sheffield-based companies are set to benefit from the project by supplying e-learning design and delivery services.
David Patterson, head of local partnerships at Learning Light, says: ìThe material is designed for use by people training in an extremely wide range of work, from horticulture and construction to physics and catering.
ìBecause Sheffield has such a deep e-learning talent pool we are able to market the products and be confident that clients can find partners within the city to help them make the most of the material.
ìThe city has become home to the largest concentration of e-learning companies in the UK and possibly in Europe simply because of the breadth and depth of skills held here by individual people and companies. Itís a global market and Sheffield-based e-learning companies are working worldwide to raise standards and deliver the very best material.î
Sheffield now boasts the UKís largest e-learning community, with leaders in the e-learning sector such as Kineo, Can Studios, Tribal, Line Communications, Desq, The Workshop, Peakdean and the Ufi all having offices in the city.
City development company Creative Sheffield has stated that it sees the e-learning sector as vital to the continued regeneration of the regionís economy and has heralded the construction of the Digital Campus, set to house over 3,000 CDI sector workers, as a significant step towards Sheffield becoming Europeís capital of e-learning.
