Shadow Business Secretary supports competition to shine a spotlight on UK’s self-employed

Shadow Business Secretary, Chuka Umunna MP, has backed a competition to find the UK’s best business minds and shine a spotlight on Britain’s self-employed professionals

Shadow Business Secretary, Chuka Umunna MP, has backed a competition to find the UK’s best business minds and shine a spotlight on Britain’s self-employed professionals.

The competition, 15 for 15, aims to back self-employed professionals from across sectors, from architects and artisan bakers to writers and app developers, and showcase the work of independent professionals from across the country.

Commenting on the 15 for 15 competition, Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna MP said:

“More and more people are becoming their own boss and turning to self-employment to achieve their dreams and aspirations - this is to be welcomed: we want Britain’s economy to be as enterprising and dynamic as it can be.

“We should do all we can to highlight and showcase the growing contribution made by self-employed people to the UK economy. That’s why I’m pleased to support PCG’s 15 for 2015 competition which shines a spotlight on the UK’s self-employed professionals and the benefits which starting out on your own can bring, as we look forward to National Freelancers Day later this year.”

Louis Clark, spokesman for the competition, said:

“The UK’s army of self-employed professionals is growing day by day and this competition is backing those who have made the brave decision to go it alone.

“To receive such positive backing from Mr Umunna is fantastic and will go a long way in showing support for all kinds of self-employed professionals. It’s also hugely encouraging that Mr Umunna clearly recognises the entrepreneurial spirit of these talented independent professionals and the contributions they make to the UK economy.”
