Recruitment experts at Southampton-based award-winning IT recruitment consultancy Preferred IT know more than most how finding jobseekers their perfect job can be a life changing moment

Recruitment experts at Southampton-based award-winning IT recruitment consultancy Preferred IT know more than most how finding jobseekers their perfect job can be a life changing moment. But a gallant team of Preferred ITís female staff have turned their efforts to raising funds to help people affected by a life-changing event of a different kind ñ cancer ñ by running 5km to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The plucky team were among 10,000 ladies who took part in the Race for Life held on Southampton Common on July 13 - the regional leg of the single biggest fundraising event of its kind in the UK which aims to raise over million pounds for the UKís leading cancer charity.

For one particular team runner, the Race for Life had particular importance. Preferred IT Recruitment Consultant Sally Ashenden, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 ñ aged just 34 - and over the past year has fought and won her own personal battle with the disease.

The Preferred IT team has now raised in the region of 1500, which has been generously doubled by the directors at Preferred IT. Director David Clayden commented, ìCancer touches the lives of so many people, and to see a member of our own staff battle with the disease has brought it even closer to home. Itís humbling to see how courageously Sally has coped with her physical and emotional challenges brought on by the disease, and for her and her colleagues to take such positive action towards combating cancer.î

ìIt was a natural decision to want to support Sally and the teamís fundraising efforts. There was no question that we wanted to match the funds raised from this worthwhile event,î he added.

Cancer survivor Sally Ashenden commented, ìI am really grateful for the huge amount of support Iíve had from all of the team at Preferred who have been there for me 100%. And the companyís financial support for our fundraising efforts is the icing on the cake.î

Race organiser and fellow Recruitment Consultant Emma Bartle said, ìCancer Research UK is a long-standing client of Preferred IT. Having worked with them from the inside has given us a valuable insight into the multitude of work that they do to help us all, one way or another, in combating this terrible disease. Every year of research improves our understanding of how to prevent cancer and treat it more effectively.î
