Since the upgrade of one-stop-shop careers portal www.newlifenetwork.co.uk in January, visitor numbers are now up by an astounding factor of ten. In February, every visitor to the site viewed an average of six pages and that rose to ten by the close of April.
Site editor, Janet Davies, says ìThe improved look and feel of the site has obviously had an impact on visitor numbers, however, this is clearly a response to the sense of buoyancy in the current employment market. People appear to be thinking that now is a good time to move on, move up or move back into the workplaceî.
She adds a word of caution, however, ìWe are still hearing far too many claims from candidates, unfortunately, that significant numbers of vacancies advertised on top job boards donít really exist, are still being advertised well after ëhiddení closing dates or despite the fact that they have already been filled. Recruiters must be more circumspect about publishing closing dates and taking expired positions off websites. Applicants can waste a great deal of time and energy applying for what they believe to be their dream job only to be let down. Whatever the reasons behind this, it does a great deal to damage the brand image of the agencies and the employers that they represent and no one wants thatî.
