Later today, Ivan Lewis MP, Minister for Skills and Vocational Education, will launch new national Standards for management and leadership at an event organised by the Skills for Business Network.
Developed by the Management Standards Centre (MSC), an organisation within the Chartered Management Institute, the Standards have been created to address the continuing weakness in UK management and its knock-on effect on organisational performance.
Key points that will be addressed are that:
currently 1/3 of the UK’s managers are not proficient, according to their own employers
- by 2012, the UK will need 2 million more managers
- addressing this problem, the new Standards cover 47 topic areas
- the Standards are linked to cross-industry qualifications and are available as a day-to-day support tool for employers via
