New Managing Director for City and Guilds Awards

The City and Guilds of London Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard (Dick) Winterton, currently chief executive of Skills for Justice, as the new Managing Director of City and Guilds Awards.

Following a period in the RAF in various posts including Training Director at RAF Cosford (the largest Ministry of Defence aerospace training centre), Mr Winterton served in various national training posts including Director at Lantra National Training Organisation, Chief Executive of the Police Skills and Standards Organisation, and from 2004 as Chief Executive of Skills for Justice, the Sector Skills Council for the whole of the justice sector, which includes police, prisons, the courts, community justice and probation services.

Commenting on the appointment, Chris Humphries, Director General of the City and Guilds of London Institute, said: ëWe are absolutely delighted that Dick has agreed to accept this position, which will provide a tremendous opportunity for him to direct his energy and passionate commitment to skills to building on almost 130 years of success for City and Guilds qualifications.í

Mr Winterton, who is expected to take up his new post on 30 July 2007, commented today: ëI have worked with City and Guilds for many years and have a huge respect for the organisation. I very much look forward to building on the many strengths I have found and leading City and Guilds Awards into a challenging future.í
