Ufi Ltd, the company behind learndirect - the government sponsored national e-learning network, has appointed a new Board member to represent the interests of learndirect in Wales.
Bryn Davies, Principal and Chief Executive at Ystrad Mynach College, brings to the Board experience of teaching, management and leadership in the further education sector, and a solid background working to promote the value of lifelong learning within industry and government.
As Vice Chairman of NIACE Dysgu Cymru (the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education in Wales), a member of ELWa (Education and Learning Wales) Regional Committee and the Welsh representative on the Board of the Lifelong Learning Sector Skills Council, Bryn has in depth knowledge of the skills issues in Wales. His credentials also include experience on the Boards of two Chambers of Commerce and the management of a commercial training company. The mixture of education and business experience reflects Ufiís strategic priorities for the next five years.
John Weston, Chairman of the Ufi Board, said: Bryn makes a welcome addition to our team, and his expertise will be added to the wide ranging experience of our existing 12 members, whose backgrounds range from education, business, the arts and the public sector. The Board is now positioned to take Ufi forward to the next stage of its development as a provider of world-class e-learning and e-services to businesses and individuals across the UK.
Bryn added: Since Ufi was set up in Wales in 1999, more than 60,000 learners have improved their skills with learndirect. Iím delighted to have the opportunity of shaping the development of Ufiís services, and to be part of this innovative organisation and the future success of many more Welsh learners.
