MOSOSO - Confidential Relationships On Your Mobile

The latest acronym to come across my desk is MOSOSO.

This is short for Mobile Social Software, which is a kind of software that allows you access to your social software network using your mobile phone.

I can hear it already. Not another way to communicate!

Hold on to your horses here. This one might be useful for HR people.

If you look at who is on social software networks like Spoke or LinkedIn you find many recruiters and HR people. Clearly this is a good way of finding potential candidates, inside and outside of China. If the amount of detail that members provided were greater it would be much better so but let’s not quibble.

The additional functionality that MOSOSO offers is that you will be able to access your network using your phone and you will be alerted when someone in your network is close to you, geographically speaking. You can also initiate your own request to find out where someone is and they can initiate a request for your location.

This is excellent news for people who have many confidential interviews in public or semi-public places.

If the person is in your network you can tick the box in the social software membership application that allows people to find you using the system. It is also possible for someone outside the network to using MOSOSO to find you but I would assume this will not be allowed without your permission.

Or should I say that I hope ....

The MOSOSO providers utilize Wi-Fi hotspots to connect members of the same group. This can be though a mobile, a PDA or a laptop. You can receive notifications if someone you are looking to meet, or interview, is in your vicinity.

No more ’no shows’ at interview because candidates cannot tell you that they were there but, and choose your favorite here, ’It was terminal 3, right? No, oh sorry!’ ’I was a little late and I think you had already gone, sorry’, or ’Did you say the restaurant, I thought you said the lobby, sorry’.

These services also allow members to anonymously contact each other through the messaging systems and introduce themselves at a time of their choosing. If the candidate is clearly not the one you are looking for you can sneak out the back door.
