MidlandHR delivers six payrolls in eight weeks for Hope Construction Materials

Five year outsourced payroll contract

Hope Construction Materials has gone live with a fully managed payroll service comprising six payrolls for around 800 employees across a national network of 180 sites. Implemented using iTrent payroll, additional modules selected include HR and Absence, as well as Employee and Manager Self-Service.

Britain’s leading independent producer of concrete, aggregates and cement, Hope Construction Materials was formed after the acquisition of UK assets. In line with this, Hope wanted a simple-to-use platform to cater for its specific payroll and HR requirements.

Commenting on the decision to partner with MidlandHR, Lisa Flintham, regional HR manager at Hope, explains: “MidlandHR was by far the most professional organisation we met regarding this project and were extremely approachable and knowledgeable.  Against the backdrop of its excellent payroll track record, it was also evident that iTrent offered further opportunity to add value to the business through its people management and reporting tools.

The main challenge was the tight deadline. Hope needed to have six payrolls live within eight weeks. With employees transferred under TUPE  from two existing organisations, this presented a challenge due to the high numbers of different terms, conditions and rules to be created with little existing standardisation in the data which was being transferred.

“While other payroll providers said it would be impossible to deliver this project in just eight weeks, MidlandHR’s HRO team filled us with confidence as it faced up to the challenge. Successfully delivering six payrolls to the tight deadline was a fantastic achievement.

“Looking ahead, we plan to introduce learning and development and self-service through iTrent in 2014.  These developments will enable us to interact with colleagues in a more engaging way by enabling them to manage their own data, view payslips and training records, and build personal development plans. We’re also going live with Absence in Q2 this year.”

Matthew Jenkins, managing director at MidlandHR, concludes: “As part of the five year contract, MidlandHR’s HR outsourcing provision will remove the administrative burden of transactional tasks. This will allow Hope to focus on its core business and people strategies, whilst transferring risk, providing standardisation and delivering efficiencies across the organisation.

“Furthermore, the fully integrated underpinning iTrent solution ensures that Hope remains in control of its HR data and empowers individual employees to do the same, whilst providing the visibility of information and strategic toolset needed to support and enable internal HR strategy.”

Hope is the UK’s leading independent concrete company and supplies more concrete to more British towns and cities than any other independent company.
