18 employees from Hays Specialist Recruitment Ltd trekked through Kenya to raise over 82,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care this month.
As part of its charity of the year partnership, Marie Curie Cancer Care created the ëProject Kenyaí trek exclusively for Hays employees to help them raise essential funds for the charity. As a break from trekking through the Rift Valley past dormant volcanoes and through a vast landscape of river beds and gorges, the group stopped for four days to take part in a community project with local Massai people, carrying out essential refurbishment and maintenance work on facilities at a local school.
Poppy Penhallow, Group HR Assistant, at Hays said, ìIt was a truly fantastic experience and itís great knowing that our time and practical contribution made a real difference to a local community abroad. And at home, weíve raised more than 82,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care ñ helping the charity care for more terminally ill patients.î
Owing to the success of this project, Marie Curie Cancer Care is now planning other bespoke treks with more of its corporate partners. For more information visit, mariecurie.org.uk
