Majority of Job Seekers Post Resumes to Multiple Sites

Nearly 50 percent post to three or more job boards, with niche sites proving to be most effective

Beyond.com, Inc., the worldís largest network of specialty career communities, polled business professionals across its network of more than 15,000 sites to discover how many online job boards professionals post their resume to when searching for a job, and which are most effective.

More than 6,400 Beyond.com Network visitors responded to the recent poll question:

ìHow many online job boards do you have your resume posted on?î

24% - Have their resume posted on 1 to 2 job boards
29% - Have their resume posted on 3 to 4 job boards
18% - Have their resume posted on 5 or more job boards
29% - Do not have their resume posted online

Of the professionals who currently have their resume posted online, nearly 54 percent agreed that geographic and industry-specific job sites are most effective when searching for a job, while the remainder chose general job boards.

ìThere has been a growing trend towards the use of niche-specific job boards because many job seekers and employers are realizing general job boards may no longer be an effective standalone employment solution,î said Rich Milgram, CEO of Beyond.com. ìAs a result, job seekers are posting their resumes to multiple job boards and other online communities that more closely match their individual career needs and personal goals to increase their chances of landing their next job.î

The goal of any job seeker is to quickly secure their next job by effectively marketing themselves to employers. Below are a few key reasons why job seekers should consider diversifying their job search to include niche job boards:

Local Jobs ó For most job seekers, it is ideal to find a job that does not require relocation or a hefty commute. Geographically targeted job boards advertise local jobs, eliminating the stress of sifting through job ads from other regions.

Specific Field or Industry Focus ó Niche job boards offer job postings that are tailored to specific industries or fields, allowing job seekers to access jobs that are closely related to their skill set and connect with employers that are looking for people with their interests and experiences.

Jobs Closely Match Experience Level ó Sifting through jobs for which the job seeker is either overqualified or unqualified can be frustrating. Niche job boards can reduce the time spent sifting through job ads by offering targeted job search results that more closely meet their skill level.
