When an American telecoms giant decided to extend its operations in Russia it could have turned to any multi-national firm for help in finding staff.
Instead Commscope called on Cheshire-based head hunter Doug Mackay whose growing reputation for recruiting the best people for the job impressed its US bosses.
ëRecruiting staff abroad ñ especially somewhere as culturally different as Russia ñ can seem like a game of roulette,í explained Doug, who runs Collingwood Search and Selection. ëBut we have recruited English speaking locals for firms operating all over the world, from Saudi Arabia to China. It can be daunting, but we take the hassle out of it.í
The American firm heard about Collingwood from another client and Doug is now preparing to visit Moscow to interview candidates.
ëRecruiting abroad is always a challenge and working in the Saudi capital Riyadh was quite an experience but we recruited a team of 10 Saudi nationals and filled all the positions in six weeks,í explained Doug.
It may sound like something from the TV show ëCrackerí but Doug firmly believes in a new system of behavioural profiling which he says plays an increasingly important role in finding the right person for the job.
ëThe tool we use with candidates takes just eight minutes ñ and the test can be carried out on-line,í said Doug. ëIt has been developed by Thomas International and increases the chances of a successful appointment by 88 per cent ñ which can be especially useful when recruiting abroad.í
