With the cost of placing an online job ad spiraling rapidly upwards, new job search engine, íJob Ahoy!í, is a breath of fresh air to employers. Launched in October 2005, Job Ahoy! charges nothing to post a job ad - and never will!
Job Ahoy! have also linked their with Google Base so not only does your ad appear on Job Ahoy! it also appears on Google Base. 2 for the price of 1... Well if you had to pay that is!
While conventional job search engines allow job-seekers free access to most of their services, they charge employers to post job ads. Career Builder in the US, for instance, charges USD $350 to place a standard job ad. Job Ahoy! is absolutely free for all users.
The idea grew out of pure frustration, says Job Ahoy! founder, Ian Butler. When it took me half an hour to post a single job ad on one of the major job sites, and I was charged several hundred dollars for the honor, the seed was planted. A couple of days later, I realized that the conventional job search engine model isnít just frustrating, itís also becoming increasingly ineffective. According to Mr. Butler, pay-per-post job search engines exclude businesses that donít have the advertising budget required. Most jobs simply arenít advertised because the employers canít afford the sky-rocketing prices. As a result, job-seekers never find out about them. Itís just bad business.
Mr. Butler says it was then that he realized the business potential of free job search site which generates revenue through banner ads and Google ads alone. More and more people are using the web to find their next job. In fact, the latest figures value the UK market alone at USD $4-5 billion. Imagine the growth if it were free! As conventional pay-per-post job sites price themselves out of business, employers will turn elsewhere. And where better than somewhere free? Weíre anticipating a very high volume of web traffic, and itís this traffic that will be our bread and butter.
Job Ahoy! will initially target the English speaking markets of the USA, UK, and Australia. It is professional, easy to use, and, in addition to free job postings, it offers all the standard tools for employers and job seekers, including email notifications, job tracking, and resume and cover letter upload facilities. Mr. Butler says that in the coming months, Job Ahoy! plans to enhance the system by introducing an optional bidding system to increase the position of your job listing - much like Google AdWords, and in just one month, the site now boasts over 1 million free job listings.
