Alumwire, LLC and RecruiTV today announced the formation of a closely integrated partnership between the two companies. The companies are collaborating to make Alumwire the first online portal whereby job candidates and companies can exchange video handshakes to introduce each other in a more personal, visual manner. The videos serve as a complement to text resumes and job postings.
Launched in May 2006, Alumwire is a growing online network of college students, recent graduates, and employers who interact to form professional connections and find career resources. In December 2006, Alumwire began encouraging its users to create video resumes, which have since become a key feature of the networking and career searches which form the basis of Alumwire’s mission. Each user can introduce themselves in a 30-second video to be displayed on the user’s Alumwire profile. Aaron Sahagun, CEO of Alumwire, calls this feature the future of online recruiting; it enables recruiters to have a more personal encounter with job-seekers prior to the interview process.
Executives from Alumwire and RecruiTV agree that the partnership is bringing the employee recruiting process into the age of Web 2.0. RecruiTV is the market leader in developing video campaigns for companies looking to hire new employees, and Alumwire will be a platform from which RecruiTV’s corporate clients can recruit college alumni and students. Alumwire will feature job-hunters’ 30-second video resumes, which are being described as video handshakes, and RecruiTV will provide recruiting videos created by companies. RecruiTV’s CEO Peter Altieri states: High caliber candidates are looking for a feel for (whether a company is) the right fit for them, and there’s no better way to do that than in a video. These candidates can now turn to Alumwire to provide them with short, insightful and personalized company video clips from hiring mangers, team members and recent hires at the company to help them to decide whether a company is the right fit. Companies can in turn use the Alumwire network to find the highest caliber of candidates by reviewing a candidate’s video handshake introduction and resume.
The Internet is rapidly becoming the most important source of recruitment for employers, as young job-seekers increasingly search sites like CareerBuilder (another Alumwire partner) for job listings. Executives of Alumwire and RecruiTV hope to create a bilateral connection between employers and job candidates, where each party will have the opportunity to become more familiar with the other via visual technology.
Alumwire’s network is steadily expanding, as more young professionals turn to the Internet and networking sites to ease their transition into a career.
