Local government and the private-sector housing market are two of the areas recruiting jobseekers with financial skills, it has been claimed.
Hays Public Services has suggested that there are still plenty of finance-related jobs across the public services, despite the economic problems in the UK showing no sign of ending.
Jan McQuaker, regional director at Hays Public Services, said that social housing offers excellent career opportunities for a wide range of finance people. These include financial planning and analysis specialists, treasury managers, project accountants, as well as more traditional roles.
Likewise, the transitions occurring in local government across the UK mean there are opportunities for accountants looking to deal with change management.
According to Anders Jensen, marketing manager of ClickAJob, strong financial skills are in demand across most sectors as employers have confidence in high-level numeracy.
Financial skills usually suggest involvement with management and the decision-making process, he says.
The expectation is that these people are better disciplined in business procedures and more likely to hit the ground running.
According to the Public Sector Employment Q2 2008 report published by the Office for National Statistics, employment in local government increased by 2,000 in the second quarter of 2008.
