The Yorkshire Productivity Awards, staged at the Leeds Met Hotel, last month (Apr), are now in their fifth year and attract entries from firms across the north of England.

EMS Sigma, which opened a new regional office in Thorpe Park, Leeds, 12 months ago ñ the company also has an established north-west office in Runcorn - supported the ìBest Newcomerî categories.

Joint winners of the large company award were Tremco Illbruck, of Wigan, which operates in the sealants, glazing, waterproofing, roofing, flooring and passive fire protection markets, and business, corporate, retail banking and insurance and investment services provider HBOS plc, of Halifax.

The small company award went to decorative commercial lighting specialist ASD Lighting, of Rotherman.

Roy Davies, managing director of EMS Sigma, said: ìWe were keen to support the best newcomer awards as we are ourselves a relative newcomer to the region, coupled with the fact that the manufacturing sector represents our core area of activity.î

Yorkshire Productivity was formed by Virtual College, the Ilkley, West Yorkshire-based blended training provider, to champion improving productivity through specialised training and implementation support.
