Cairnstone Re Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Medical Stop-Loss Managing General Underwriter Programs now cover nearly 1 million people

Cairnstone Re, a managing general underwriter, celebrates its tenth year in operation this week. Since launching its business in February 1996, the Miami-based company has steadily grown its business to become one of the largest, independent managing general underwriters in the industry.

ìWe are obviously delighted with the tremendous success that Cairnstone has enjoyed over the past ten years,î said Jim Tillett, president, CEO and one of the founders of Cairnstone Re. ìOur growth and achievements are testament to our dedicated employees, and our world-class business partners and clients who have supported us along the way.î

The founders of Cairnstone envisioned a company that would become indispensable to its clients and partners by managing catastrophic risks in a superior fashion. ìFrom the beginning, our focus has been on providing clients with innovative ways to reduce the costs associated with catastrophic medical care. Today, almost 1 million people are covered by our programs. We are proud that we have been able to really help companies achieve greater stability in their health care costs,î said Tillett.

Among the products Cairnstone Re introduced during its first 10 years are CairnCare, a comprehensive program that gives employers and their workers access to the best medical care services for catastrophic medical events while saving companies millions of dollars in claim expenses. Cairnstone Re also introduced OmniRisk, a unique stop-loss product that helps large employers significantly reduce their premiums for catastrophic coverage. Last year Cairnstone introduced ìRenewal Guardî to the market, a stop-loss product that enables an employer to budget their health care costs over a two-year period.

Reflecting back on Cairnstone Reís first 10 years, Tillett said he is proudest of the firmís ability to establish and maintain long-term relationships with all of its stakeholders. ìWeíve worked with the same reinsurer and carrier for nearly 10 years and together we have endured through the ups and downs of the business cycles. We have been fortunate to attract an exceptionally talented staff and our turnover is virtually nonexistent. We also enjoy high rates of persistency with our clients,î concluded Tillett.

Cairnstone Re has also been an outstanding corporate citizen. Cairnstone Re employees have volunteered their time and services and the company has donated generously to numerous community service projects in Miami, where its headquarters are located as well as throughout the country where it operates regional offices or has major clients. Cairnstone associates serve meals at the Miami Homeless Assistance Center and host birthday and Christmas parties for children at a local shelter for families. This year five Cairnstone associates will be running in the Boston Marathon to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

ìThis is an exciting time for all of us at Cairnstone as we celebrate our tenth anniversary,î said Tillett. ìWe remain committed to our partners and clients and look forward to delivering the best products and services for managing their catastrophic medical events.î
