The average salary for a job advertised in London is 10,000 more than the national average.
Data from 880,000 jobs advertised around the UK in the last six months was analysed by jobs search engine AllTheTopBananas.com.
It discovered the average salary advertised in London is 38,998.
Analysis of all 540,000 positions advertised outside the capital showed a UK average salary of 28,407.
The jobs were advertised between August 2007 and January 2008.
Dave Martin, the MD of AllTheTopBananas.com, said: ìThe difference between salaries in London and the rest of the UK may look huge. But with the cost of living being so much higher in the capital, itís unlikely Londoners feel that extra spending power.î
He added: ìEvery month we do this index, we see average advertised salaries go up. Itís a fascinating picture of whatís happening to wages in different parts of the UK.î
AllTheTopBananas.com has access to a huge amount of jobs data. It gathers, collects and displays jobs from hundreds of partner websites across the UK.
Right now the site has 226,232 vacancies online.
It releases a salary index every month, which contains a regional breakdown and figures for the top 50 towns and cities in the UK.
Across the regions in the February salary index, Wales is second to London, with an average advertised salary of 32,030.
East Anglia is in third place with an average advertised salary of 29,685, and the North East is at the bottom of the table on 26,067.
