Are criminal gangs infiltrating the banking industry to conduct fraud?

The City of London Police has blamed temporary workers for this increase in banking fraud.

Yesterday’s Daily Telegraph contains an article suggesting that criminal gangs are infiltrating the banking industry to conduct fraud. The City of London Police has blamed temporary workers for this increase in banking fraud. In response the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, the industry body representing the recruitment sector, including those who place temporary workers, has issued the following statement.

The REC is disappointed to see the Daily Telegraph report suggest that temporary workers are the source of fraud within the banking and finance industry. We agree with the City of London Police that vetting of all staff, whether temporary or not, is important to protect customers from fraud, but believe it is wrong to systematically blame temporary workers.

Tom Hadley, Director of External Relations at the REC said We will be contacting the City of London Police as a matter of urgency to find out the basis of their statements regarding temporary workers. It must be remembered that without temps, the finance and banking industry wouldn’t operate and would be far less competitive.
