A massive 67% of employees admit to either surfing the Internet at work for personal information, using the work telephone for personal calls or using their business emails for personal correspondence.
It was found that 62% of respondents use their email at work for communicating with their mates, 65% use the telephone to call friends, family and sort out personal things and a whopping 73% admit to surfing the Internet whilst they really should be slogging away!
The results have been collected and collated by TipTopJob, the International Job Portal from a number of surveys over the months prior to Christmas and the New Year.
From the massive feedback, we can identify that most respondents will admit to taking advantage of using the Internet at work out of the 3 options. TipTopJob suggest, ëthis may be because some employees do not have access to the web at home or it may be just because it is the quickest, easiest and most convenient way to find out information. It also presents the least likely means of getting caught.í
The lowest response, 62% (although still reasonably high) comes from using the work emails. ëThis could be attributed to the fact that all emails can be traced at work, leaving hard evidence behind of corresponding with friends, demonstrating less work and more play. Unlike the Internet, it presents more chance of getting caughtí.
We all have access to these resources at the workplace and it is not uncommon to be given the freedom to take advantage of them when we are left to our own devices. Most of us have admitted to behaving this way and will continue to do so in the future, but it is really down to the individualsí conscience as to the extent they are likely to take advantage. You must remember that you are at work for a reason ñ and that is to work!
