In response to Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain's statement to the House of Commons earlier today, Employers' Forum on Disability (EFD) offers the Government full support over Remploy modernisation.
EFD supports the objective of getting more disabled people into mainstream employment and believes the Remploy changes accurately match the changing aspirations of disabled people.
Susan Scott-Parker, EFD chief executive says: Disabled people's expectations are changing. Government and employers have to work together to make sustainable change happen.
Although we appreciate that change may be unsettling for many disabled people who have been employed in a Remploy factory long-term, we hope that Mr Hain's statement sends out the message to critics that these
changes will go ahead.
Our members recognise the value that disabled employees bring to their organisations and there are clear benefits for disabled employees themselves to be employed in sustainable mainstream employment.
