More Health and Safety legislation to effect Small Businesses!

.

From October 2006, small businesses risk facing legal action if they do not update their recruitment, training and retirement processes to reflect the changes being brought in under new age discrimination legislation. In addition to this The Fire Safety Law will also be enforced to ensure that all Fire Safety measures are adopted in the workplace.

ëSmall businesses need to make sure they understand the implications of this new legislationí, said Rosemary Izzard, Director Drury PSM, specialists in Health and Safety Issues and Employment Law. ëWorking with small businesses we have experienced a high volume of concern which is why we decided to host a seminar to cover the main points.í

The seminar, which has been organised by Drury PSM will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Bradford on Wednesday 4th October 2006, will cover the main points of the Age Discrimination Act and the Fire Safety Law

ëIn a recent survey conducted by Business Link it was clear that small businesses are not ready for the legislation changes that will come into force in October 2006í, said Izzard. ëThe legislation will make age discrimination illegal in the workplace, whether it is in relation to hiring younger or older staff, promoting or even choosing who goes on training courses.í

The seminar will also highlight the many benefits to having a workforce made up of a wide range of ages as employment issues can be complex, and it will also cover how to conduct a Fire Risk Assessment in the work place. There will also be experts available on the day should managers need to seek advice or support if they are unfamiliar with what their obligations are.
