The fifth publication in ENTOís ëExcellence iní series of reference guides for Assessors and Verifiers has been published by ENTO

The fifth publication in ENTOís ëExcellence iní series of reference guides for Assessors and Verifiers has been published by ENTO - the Standard Setting Body for the assessment and verification units that are the corner stone for Scottish and National Vocational Qualifications (S/NVQs). It is to be launched 7th September 2006.

The book, Excellence in Assessing, is targeted at everyone involved in the assessment of S/NVQs.

This follow up publication to the successful Excellence in assessment and verification with a foreword from QCA, aims to help reduce bureaucracy in the system as well as give authoritative advice on key issues surrounding assessment processes.

Subjects covered in the A4 book include: the role of assessors and different methods of assessment; when to identify the best methods and how to use them; was to keep it simple and streamline the evidence.

Importantly, the book is based around practice - not just on standards, and features tried and tested examples from experienced Assessors and Trainers. The book dispels a lot of folklore around the use of different assessment methods, but offers guidance to retain the rigor and quality needed for effective assessment.

David Morgan, director of ENTO, explained ìEffective assessing is about a back to basics approach of determining someone competent in their job role and nothing elseî.

ìThis book embraces the ENTO philosophy and methodology of assessment ñ put simply adopting a back to basics approach led by the Assessor and without the unnecessary and perceived bureaucracy and burden on onerous paper based evidence and documentsî.

Written by Hilary Read, a renowned author and trainer in the sector, the guide is available to order from ENTO by calling (0116) 251 7979, or can be ordered online at www.ento.co.uk.
