New Construction Industry Scheme Examined at Softworld HR and Payroll Solutions

18 ñ 19 October 2006, Hall 17, NEC, Birmingham

At Softworld HR and Payroll Solutions this autumn, HM Revenue and Customsí Business Support Team will be giving visitors an insight into the new Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) ñ a system created to ensure people working in the construction industry pay the right amount of tax. Coming into force on 6 April 2007, the scheme will see cards and certificates replaced by a simple verification process.

Simon Wardropper, business advisor for the HMRC, said ìWe look forward to welcoming many businesses to the event. Our aim is to provide an insight into the new scheme, how it will work and the benefits the simplified system will provide, making it easier for all those working in the construction industry.î

Subcontractors starting work in the construction industry on a self-employed basis after 5 April 2007 (or whose temporary registration cards have expired and were not renewed) will need to register for the new CIS.

Mr Wardropper continued: ìWe are keen to work closely with all members of the construction industry to ensure the new scheme is introduced smoothly. We are here to help and give advice and encourage businesses to contact us if they have any questions or concerns. We want to avoid the possibility of contractors incurring penalties if they fail to send their returns on time.î The session will take place at 11am on 18th October in the Softworld HR and Payroll Solutions Masterclass theatre.
