Nearly 50,000 jobs were created across the UKís 21 key industries in June with the printing and paper sector leading the way on the Job Creation Index. In June 2005 a number of sectors were recruiting heavily such as vehicles and parts and retail with the overall figure at an all time high of 65,202 but whilst many have not recruited so aggressively in 2006, the job creation figures are healthy across all sectors.
The JCI figures are determined by comparing the number of jobs created within UK industrial sectors each month with the number of jobs created for the corresponding month in the previous year. The JCI figure shows individual industry performance, measured as a percentage above or below the number of jobs created from a year ago. From these figures, the following trends have been highlighted:

Telecommunications ñ The telecommunications sector has seen an increase in job creation this month as the JCI rises to 375`

Neil Jones, Adecco Sales & Marketing Director of Adecco UK and Ireland said: ìAlthough job creation is down compared to last year we have seen an increase across all industry sectors in terms of recruitment and this can be reflected in the job creation total of 48,916, a significant increase compared to previous months in 2006. Summer is always a strong time for recruitment and it will be interesting to see if this trend continues towards September.î
Nicholas Eggington, operations manager of Mandis commented, ìDuring the summer months we tend to see an increase in job creation and June is no exception. Despite a downturn from June 2005 when job creation hit a peak of 65,202, this month job creation is still high at 48,916. Public sector and energy have both had another good month with energy recruiting steadily. Telecoms shares the good news spot following BTís 1bn investment in infrastructure.
